Sherita Young
Sherita Young has served as an advocate for youth in the field of social services for 18 years. After experiencing first hand the physical and mental benefits of yoga, she decided to work towards earning her level I Kundalini Yoga instructors certificate, to add to her mental wellness toolbox.
Upon completing her certificate, under the guidance of Keval Kaur Khalsa of Kundalini Yoga Durham, in February 2016 she began partnering with Y.O.G.A. for Youth to share the technology of yoga with youth in underserved communities located in Durham, Wake and Orange counties. Sherita has also co-presented with her esteemed colleagues on topics such as collaborating with communities of color and developing cultural competency skills at various workshops in DC and NC.
“I have found Kundalini yoga to be a liberating practice. At first, I was skeptical, but now I understand the purpose and effectiveness of mantra, mudra, pranayama and kriya yoga on our mind, body and spirit. It's just another practice to help humanity realize our potential through movement, breath and connection. It's a beautiful, challenging and meditative tool for growth.”
